Abel Wondwosen
Founder of NGEE
My name is Abel, and I’m the founder of Next Generation of Ethiopian Engineers (NGEE) — a platform built to reimagine and transform engineering education in Ethiopia.
I hold a degree in Electromechanical Engineering, backed by over four years of hands-on experience in industrial workshops, and an Industrial Automation Certification from a polytechnic institute. These experiences have shown me a critical truth: while engineering holds the key to solving many of Ethiopia’s biggest challenges, most students don’t yet see how important and practical it truly is.
Sadly, the current education system focuses heavily on theory and memorization — producing graduates who often struggle to apply their knowledge in the real world. When an honors graduate in electrical engineering can’t fix a basic household stove, something is clearly broken. This isn’t a failure of the student, but of the system.
I founded NGEE not to complain, but to build solutions — and to make sure future generations don’t face the same gaps we did.
At NGEE, I am:
-
Building a platform that is completely free that teachs about engineering and interact with students.
- Creating free, practical, and visual engineering courses that teach how machines are built and how systems actually work
-
Designing blueprints for automated and computerized machines
-
Building an online marketplace where students and makers can order machine parts directly from China
More importantly, I believe engineering should start early. We must introduce engineering thinking to kids while their minds are open, curious, and creative. Ethiopia’s path to sustainable development and industrial independence depends on a generation that sees engineering not as an abstract subject — but as a tool to build their future.
My mission through NGEE is to:
Empower young minds, unlock real-world skills, and ignite a homegrown engineering and manufacturing revolution.
